NEW YORK — Kadarius Toney wasn’t the only Giants receiver who had an offseason procedure.
Kenny Golladay did, too, GM Joe Schoen revealed Thursday.
“He’s come to work every day,” Schoen said of Golladay during his preseason press conference. “Great kid, works hard, knows his assignments. I don’t think he’s missed a practice. He’s been available other than the spring. He had a little procedure. But he’s been good.”
Golladay didn’t want to explain or discuss the procedure in the locker room after practice. But he said he’s “healthy” now.
“I just want to remain healthy,” Golladay said. “I’m very blessed that I was able to go through this whole training camp healthy. I’m able to be a part of each practice just to get that chemistry down. The rest, I’m going to keep those expectations to myself.”
This is the second offseason procedure on a key player that the Giants only revealed recently. Daniel Jones said on Aug. 18 that he had a “non-football related” neck procedure in the winter.
Toney’s arthroscopic knee procedure was reported by the New York Daily News in May. He also appeared to tweak his hamstring in camp.
The good news is Toney said Thursday that “I’m ready to go for Week 1,” despite not playing in the preseason and barely practicing.
“Football is unpredictable,” Toney said to his first locker room crowd of reporters. “You can get hurt running routes on air out there. It’s not really hard to get hurt. But it’s just all about taking care of your body, all about recovery. So I’ll just have to do a better job of doing that.”
Golladay played with the backups in the preseason finale against the Jets, but he said he “didn’t see it [any] way” in a negative light.
Schoen said of Toney: “I’m excited to see Kadarius. He didn’t play in any preseason games so I’m excited to see him get on the field in a game and a meaningful opportunity, know the playbook and make plays.”
