Giants QB Daniel Jones has ‘a chance’ to play Sunday vs. Commanders

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones loves playing against the Washington Commanders. The numbers speak for themselves, as Jones has completed 70% of his passes, with 10 touchdowns and only three interceptions vs. Washington. Additionally, Jones has rushed for 324 yards and a touchdown against the Commanders.

But, most importantly, Jones is 5-1-1 in his career vs. Washington.

Jones’ record against the rest of the NFL: 17-34.

It’s fair to say the Commanders helped Jones land his contract extension last offseason.

New York and Washington meet for the first time this season on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Jones is questionable with a neck injury. He missed last week’s game at Buffalo and only practiced in a limited capacity all week. Jones had yet to be cleared for contact as of Friday, so it’s difficult to imagine he will play Sunday.

Giants coach Brian Daboll still believes there’s a chance we’ll see Jones, though.

“A chance, yep,” Daboll said per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

“We’ll see. We’re talking to medical people and just take it day-by-day here.”

While it’s unusual for a player to play who’s missed practice all week, Daboll doesn’t see that as an issue for Jones.

“Yeah, he’s played a lot of football for us,” Daboll said. “He’s been in the system for a while. So, again, we’ll take that one, get all the information, and then make the right decision for him and for us.

Daboll is right; Jones has played a lot of football, especially against the Commanders. But if he hasn’t been cleared by Friday — and the game is Sunday — it just doesn’t seem realistic he could play on Sunday.

This sounds more like Daboll is making the Commanders prepare for Jones, knowing it will be Taylor under center in Week 7. You can’t blame him.

If Jones could play, this would certainly be the week to return.
