Giants’ Parris Campbell dealing with knee tendinitis

New York Giants wide receiver Parris Campbell was among those who did not practice on Thursday and although it was considered somewhat of a maintenance day, there was a little more to it.

Following practice, Campbell told Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic that he is dealing with some tendinitis in his knee, which is a new injury for the wideout.

The good news is that the tendinitis issue appears to be minor and Campbell is expected to return to the field on Friday.

Health has long been a problem for Campbell, who missed 35 career games prior to the 2023 regular season. Last year was the first in which he appeared in all 17 games, leading to a breakout campaign that included 63 receptions for 623 yards and three touchdowns.

Despite the resurgence, Campbell’s injury history hindered him in free agency. The market wasn’t what he expected and he ended up signing a one-year, $4.7 million deal with the Giants.

“I thought it would be different. But looking at my past, having dealt with all those injuries, it’s tough for a team to invest long-term off of one year. So, the human nature of it, I thought that it would be different. When I really looked at reality, if I’m a team, I can’t invest in a guy long-term because I’ve only done it for one year,” Campbell admitted to reporters in June.

Early in camp, Campbell has played a significant role for the Giants and appears to be in line to start this season. He’s developed a chemistry with quarterback Daniel Jones and if he can remain healthy, will be a focal point of the team’s offense in 2023.
