Giants' Mike Yastrzemski Hits Special Homer at Fenway Park After Greeting From Hall of Fame Grandfather

Since his MLB debut in 2019, San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski has found himself in the limelight relatively often. Such is life when your grandfather is legendary Boston Red Sox outfielder and first baseman Carl Yastrzemski, a Hall of Famer, Triple Crown winner and three-time batting champion.

Since the Giants and Red Sox rarely cross paths, the younger Yastrzemski rarely reckons on-field with his grandfather's considerable aura. When the two teams have met up, however, magic has happened. On Sept. 18, 2019, for instance, Carl threw Mike a ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park.

On Thursday, Mike may have even one-upped that moment. After greeting his grandfather in Fenway Park's clubhouse, the younger Yastrzemski homered in the third inning to stake San Francisco to a 1-0 lead.

The blast was just Mike's third this season, but it could hardly have come at a better time—or place.

If he wants to tie his grandfather's career home run total at Fenway Park, he only has 235 to go.
