Giants’ Malik Nabers returns to practice, may play vs. Texans

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers (ankle) returned to the practice field on Thursday and is on track to play against the Houston Texans.

“Definitely a chance,” head coach Brian Daboll said of Nabers playing on Saturday.

Nabers left practice with what appeared to be a serious injury this past Sunday, but tests quickly determined it was only a mild sprain.

“I always want to get back on the field, but like I said, health is 100 percent of what I’m focused on right now just before we start going onto Week 1, to be healthy when the season really starts. That’s the main focus,” Nabers said earlier this week.

Daboll also revealed that quarterback Drew Lock (hip) will dress on Saturday and could be used if needed.

In more unexpectedly positive injury news, rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who left practice in an air cast earlier this week, suited up on Thursday and did some running.

Daboll said Tracy is doing well but stopped short of saying a return is imminent. It remains likely that the rookie will miss a little bit of time as he recovers from a low ankle sprain.
