Giants looking to create more explosive plays down the field in 2024

The New York Giants have struggled down the field in recent years, partially due to poor offensive line play but also a lack of talent at the skill positions.

Many of the Giants’ big plays came by way of running back Saquon Barkley, who now resides in Philadelphia as a member of the Eagles. However, the team selected LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft hoping that he will create an Odell Beckham-like offensive advantage.

That would be music to the ears of quarterback Daniel Jones, who recently told the Giants Huddle podcast that a primary focus this offseason has been creating more explosive plays down the field.

An offer for Giants fans

“Making sure we’re better on third down. Making sure we’re staying on the field and putting together long drives,” Jones said. “We’re trying to improve (and) create explosive plays and get the ball down the field.

“Hitting the chances that we get. That’s throwing the ball accurately, letting guys run, and taking advantage of the shots we have. Those are things we’re always working on but we’ve got a lot of guys that can make big plays.”

Jones has also looked inward and while seeing limited action due to ACL recovery this spring, focused on improving his pre-snap reads, as well as his accuracy.

“Seeing it, understanding what you’re getting, finding the opportunities, and then executing once you see them,” Jones said. “I think that’s a big part of creating explosive plays but I think they also happen when you’re executing well and throwing the ball accurately, giving a guy a chance to catch and run.”

With head coach Brian Daboll likely to assume play-calling duties in 2024, expect a much more aggressive offensive approach and a more aggressive Daniel Jones.
