Giants looking for receivers who can create separation

The New York Giants have a desperate need at the wide receiver position this offseason.

Despite the emergence of Isaiah Hodgins, who re-signed with Big Blue last week, the Giants are likely to add multiple pieces this offseason at the position to help Daniel Jones and the offense.

The Giants could lose Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton, and Richie James to free agency and after Kenny Golladay’s release, they have a little extra money to allocate toward the position

General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll also have a clear vision for the type of receiver they are targeting, which Schoen revealed on Tuesday.

“(Dabes) wants guys who can separate. If you can separate, no matter how tall, short, wide, if you can separate, we’ll find a way to use them within the offense whether it’s outside, inside or slot. That’s one of the unique skills that Daboll has is taking the players and the skill set that he has and developing the offense around their skill set,” Schoen told reporters.

The Giants’ receivers struggled to create separation last season and were the slowest unit at the position across the league.

Given the lack of talent at the position in the free agent market, the Giants have been connected to trade targets across the NFL — DeAndre Hopkins, Chris Godwin, and Tee Higgins. However, it’s unclear if they will address the position in free agency, through the draft, in a trade or a combination of those options.

Regardless of what route they use to add talent at the position, the Giants clearly want receivers that can create separation to fit into offensive coordinator Mike Kafka’s system.
