Offensive linemen and edge rushers are two of the most commonly mocked positions to the New York Giants, and that trend continued in the latest projection from Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports.
With Evan Neal, Kyle Hamilton, Aidan Hutchinson and Ikem Ekwonu all off the board at No. 5, Trapasso has the Giants going with Mississippi State offensive lineman Charles Cross.
Cross is so smooth athletically and is a young prospect, so the upside is through the roof.
Cross is widely considered the third-best offensive tackle prospect available, but some believe his ceiling is higher than others. In this scenario, if the Giants were committed to taking a tackle, they’d have no choice but to make this pick with other options dwindling.
Two picks later at No. 7 overall, Trapasso sees the Giants will take Oregon edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.
The Giants go with another upside-based prospect in Thibodeaux.
Are projects really what the Giants want entering 2022? Or is general manager Joe Schoen likely to target sure things? It’s an interesting balance he and the Giants will have to find.
The potential of Cross and Thibodeaux are through the roof, but there is some bust concern as much as there’s boom optimism.
