Giants’ Julian Love says Brian Daboll is like ‘a big kid’

In his first year with the New York Giants, rookie head coach Brian Daboll was impressive, leading the team to the playoffs and to a playoff win.

Daboll earned a spot as a prime Coach of the Year candidate and has created a culture change around the Giants organization.

Giants safety Julian Love, who has been deemed a player the Giants can’t afford to lose, was a guest on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football on Thursday and made it clear he believes Daboll should win Coach of the Year.

“It’s exciting. He’s just like a big kid,” Love said. “He brought energy to the building, the staff, coaches, the players — everyone was juiced up and ready to go all season long. And on the field he just let players be themselves. I think he let personalities shine through the play and as a first-year head coach, that’s tough to do so I think the honor is rightfully so.

“He should (win). I mean he had a lot to overcome. To be in New York with this fan base, with the expectations already set on this culture is different. So to do what he’s done in one year, I think, yeah, the award should be his.”

Daboll had shown his energy all season, throughout the Giants’ surprising success.

During his appearance, Love also downplayed a fellow Coach of the Year candidate, Nick Sirianni, highlighting the disparity in talent — a gap Joe Schoen is out to close between the two teams.

Whether or not the Giants’ head coach wins the award, his accomplishments this season as a rookie head coach have the Giants headed in the right direction.
