In celebration of their 100th season, the New York Giants unveiled their alternate uniforms in May. They are a modernized spin on the franchise’s original uniforms and some other notable times throughout franchise history.
These uniforms include an alternate helmet — one of 13 new alternate helmets revealed for the 2024 season.
Sports Illustrated ranked the alternate helmets set to debut during the upcoming season and the Giants checked in at the very bottom.
The Giants are celebrating their 100th season in franchise history with a new “Century Red” uniform, which features the winged red and blue helmet they wore from 1937-1947 — a span which included the team’s first NFL championship in 1938.
This helmet is unfortunately the best part of what is a disastrous classic set. It looks better in grainy black-and-white footage from that 1938 championship.
The helmets themselves have been compared to the helmets worn by the NCAA’s Michigan Wolverines, while the jerseys have been compared to the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.
When the Giants unveiled the uniforms in May, there was a mixed reaction from fans, and they received harsh feedback from Giants rookie Malik Nabers and division rival Trevon Diggs.
Of the 13 new helmets, the Giants are one of four teams with helmets that are bringing back a throwback helmet.
The Giants will debut their “Century Red” uniforms in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings.
