Giants finally snapped ugly streak of games without a 100-yard rusher

The New York Giants’ overtime loss to the New York Jets was a brutal game to watch whether you were at MetLife Stadium getting soaked from the rain or from the comfort of your couch soaking in the sloppiness of the matchup.

Once the Giants were down to their third-string quarterback, Tommy DeVito, they turned primarily to the running attack for the final two and a half quarters on Sunday.

Saquon Barkley carried the ball a career-high 36 times on Sunday and eclipsed 100 yards rushing for the first time since Week 10 last season.

Barkley’s 100-yard rushing game also snapped a streak of 17 straight games for the Giants without a 100-yard rusher.

Snapping the streak was almost inevitable given the amount of carries the Giants fed to Barkley. However, it provides only the mildest of silver linings for the Giants after the embarrassing fashion they lost on Sunday.

Ideally, with the offensive line getting healthy in the coming weeks, Barkley can put up a few more 100-yard rushing games this year. The Giants may also need to rely more heavily on him with their quarterbacks banged up and tight end Darren Waller now hurt.
