New York Giants linebacker Carter Coughlin, who was released late last week before being re-signed to the practice squad, was elevated ahead of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Unfortunately for Coughlin, his game ended late in the first half when he left the field with what the team initially called a shoulder injury. He was questionable to return but that time never came.
Not long after that initial designation, the Giants downgraded Coughlin to out with a pectoral injury.
The team now fears that Coughlin suffered a torn pectoral muscle, which would put the remainder of his season in serious doubt.
“The belief is that LB Carter Coughlin suffered a torn pectoral muscle, per sources. Unlucky for the core special teamer. That likely would end his season if that’s what further testing confirms,” reports ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
A seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, Coughlin has played a pivotal role for the Giants on special teams. His loss would be a further blow to a unit that’s already seen return man Isaiah McKenzie shut down for the season and fellow return man Gunner Olszewski sit out with a reaggravated groin injury.
Coughlin will undergo more tests, likely including an MRI, on Monday morning at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
