New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was a limited participant in all three practices this week but has not yet been cleared for contact. Accordingly, he will not play on Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
That’s the bad news.
The good news is that NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Jones is “trending in the right direction” and could return in Week 8 against the New York Jets.

Jones made positive strides this week, however, participating in practice on a limited basis. As of Saturday afternoon, Jones still had not been cleared for contact. Even if he was, it’s rarely beneficial to have a QB play after being limited in practice during the week. The Giants and Jones were hopeful his injury was not a major one, and with his health progressing, that appears to be the case.
With Jones out for the second consecutive week, quarterback Tyrod Taylor will once again draw the start.
