Giants’ Daniel Jones focused on winning by any means necessary

In a Week 10 victory over the Houston Texans at MetLife Stadium, the New York Giants ran the ball 47 times. By comparison, they dropped back to pass just 17 times.

It was a wildly unbalanced game plan but one that worked. And for quarterback Daniel Jones, he’s perfectly fine with throwing fewer passes so long as the team comes away with a win.

“I think we all just want to win. Regardless of what position you play you want to win, you want to score as many points as you can and win the game,” Jones told reporters on Wednesday. “That’s where we’re all focused, that’s where I’m focused. We’ve won in different ways this year and depending on what the defense is doing, depending on how the games going we’ve adjusted our style.”

There’s no ego involved, Jones says. Whether it’s him under the center, the wide receivers or running backs, the entire team is simply focused on winning by any means necessary.

While Jones admits he likes to throw the ball, he’ll happily hand it off to Saquon Barkley if it means another locker-room celebration.

“Regardless of what position you play you want to win the game. So, that’s the most important thing and that’s where I’m focused. Continue to make good decisions and when we have opportunities to make plays in the pass game, we do it,” Jones said.

“We’ve won different ways and we have the ability to do a lot of different things on offense. (Barkley) is an incredible player, it goes without saying. He’s been huge for us and if (running him 35 times) is what it takes, that’s what it takes, and I know he’s certainly willing to do that. He’s played awesome for us.”

If a Week 11 game against the Detroit Lions turns into a shootout, Jones would welcome that, too.

“Anytime you get in those situations where the balls in your hand trying to win the game, that’s a fun situation to be in,” he said.
