Giants’ Brian Daboll sometimes has to tell Daniel Jones to ‘take a break’

You don’t have to convince New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll about starting quarterback Daniel Jones’ level of dedication.

“That position, they’re one of the hardest workers on your team usually,” Daboll told reporters at the team’s OTAs this week.

“They have the most to learn. It’s a tough position to play. Daniel’s a true pro. I’m not going to compare him to other guys I’ve been around, but he is constantly working. There’re times where I’ve got to say, ‘Just take a little break here.’ He just wants to work, work, work, meet. He’s a true pro.”

Jones is not the most vocal leader in the business but he is a strong one. This past offseason, he held offsite workouts in Arizona for himself and his teammates and is always taking the time to help new additions acclimate to the team.

For example, this week at OTAs, Jones kept rookie wideout Jalin Hyatt after practice to work on their chemistry.

That dedication has been contagious under Daboll since he got here last year.

“If you look out there, it looks like practice is still going on,” star linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux said. “Because there are a lot of guys still training with each other, helping each other out. That’s the culture we’re building.”

The culture. It started with Daboll and Jones and has caught on to the rest of the team. It’s certainly a new day for the Giants in that regard.
