New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is often in the news for one reason or another. First it was high expectations after he had so much success at Penn State. Then the ACL tear. The recovery. The setbacks. The return to the field that left fans wondering if he would ever be the same.
This season, despite being named a bounce-back player, it’s been argued Barkley doesn’t know how to play running back and he recently responded to all that criticism with some choice words.
When asked about Barkley’s ‘defiant mentality,’ head coach Brian Daboll offers words of support for his star back and team leader.
“I just know that — I’ve said this before — since spring and since summer, he’s done everything we’ve asked of him. He’s been really a pleasure to coach. He’s had a good mindset. He’s learned our stuff. He’s played hard, and he’s ran hard,” Daboll told reporters on Wednesday.
Daboll went on to say that Barkley has “done a really good job for us really since we’ve been here.”
It should come as no surprise that the coaching staff is behind Barkley. Last season’s outing was not what fans expected of his return, but everything coming out of the Giants organization indicates that he is heading in the right direction.
Barkley’s ‘defiant’ and ‘ultra-competitive’ mentality should serve him well this season, in spite of what the media spits out.
