Giants’ Brian Daboll on Bills loss: ‘You don’t get trophies for trying’

The New York Giants entered a Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills as 16-point underdogs and many believed they would be completely blown out of the water.

But the Giants fought admirably against the former squad of both general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.

An offer for Giants fans

Led by another former Bill, quarterback Tyrod Taylor, the opportunity was there for the Giants to shock the football world. However, they were unable to score from the 1-yard line to end each half and ultimately fell, 14-9.

It was a frustrating loss because the Giants beat themselves and there are no moral victories in football.

“I mean, you don’t get trophies for trying,” Daboll told reporters after the game. “It’s the National Football League. Came down to one yard and just missed it. Didn’t get it.”

With the loss, the Giants fall to 1-5 on the season, which is a far cry from the 5-1 record they sported exactly one year ago today. Even with a softer schedule ahead of them, their year appears to be lost before Halloween.

“It’s hard to (feel positive). You know it was a competitive game. I thought we competed hard, obviously you’d always like a few plays back but it’s a tough one. They’re all tough, you put a lot into it. This is a hell of a football team that we played, in a great environment, a tough place to play and 60 minutes, zero time on the clock. It’s a tough one,” Daboll added.

“We’re making small strides, but we don’t want to hear about small strides, we want to get the results and that’s what we’re going to work for.”
