Giants are mid-pack in PFF’s pre-NFL draft power rankings

The 2023 NFL draft is now just a few short weeks away and most teams have moved on from free agency as they prepare for the annual extravaganza.

Although the New York Giants continue to poke around the open market, they are largely focused on the upcoming draft as well. With 10 picks in tow, there’s a lot of work that can be done and maneuvering that is likely to happen.

But where do the Giants rest in the aftermath of free agency? Has their roster truly improved or have some of their losses outweighed the gains?

Pro Football Focus recently sought to answer those questions for all 32 teams in their pre-draft power rankings. The Giants found themselves nestled in the middle of the pack.

14. NEW YORK GIANTS

Biggest loss: S Julian Love

Biggest gain: LB Bobby Okereke

The Giants adding tight end Darren Waller is a risky move — he’s been injury prone but could have a significant impact. While injuries have limited Waller over the past two seasons, he is one of the top tight ends in football when he is at his best. Between 2019 and 2020, George Kittle and Travis Kelce were the only tight ends to best Waller’s 91.2 PFF receiving grade.

The Giants’ losses in free agency were fairly minimal.

The loss of safety Julian Love is one that certainly stung a bit but that was about the extent of the Giants’ negatives in recent months. By most accounts, they have closed the gap between themselves and the top contenders in the NFC.

The mere fact that the Giants are in the top half of PFF’s power rankings (albeit on the fringe) speaks volumes about how far they’ve come over the past 14 months.
