Giants’ Andrew Thomas taking hamstring injury day-by-day

New York Giants All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas sat out Wednesday’s practice session with a sore hamstring.

Thomas came out of Sunday night’s game against Dallas in the second half, a loss the Giants’ beleaguered offensive line can hardly afford. His status for this Sunday’s game versus the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale is up in the air.

“I’d put him in day-to-day,” head coach Brian Daboll told the media on Wednesday.

Thomas told reporters the same thing Daboll did and offered some hope that he might be able to play this week.

“They held me out today so we will see if I practice tomorrow and try to go from there,” Thomas said. “Right now, I am just taking it day-by-day. That’s the process that I have. It’s been feeling better since it first started when I first hurt it. Just giving it time and see how it does.”

Daboll said he is not inclined to move right tackle Evan Neal over to the left side to fill in for Thomas. It is more likely that if Thomas can’t go, the Giants will use the two players who spelled Thomas — Matt Peart or Joshua Ezeudu.

“We will practice some guys out here and we will be ready to go once Sunday rolls around,” Daboll said. “I’d say we’ve got enough guys to go out here and get some reps, and we’ll take a look at here the next few days.”

Thomas reminded everyone that it is a tough injury to over come for an offensive lineman.

“You definitely feel it,” he said. “Playing with a hamstring, trying to anchor, trying off the ball, it’s not easy, but like I said, everyone plays with injuries, try not to make excuses, just get healthy.”

With a quick turnaround in Week 3, it’s highly unlikely Thomas suits up against the Cardinals this Sunday.
