The Giants and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence have agreed to a four-year extension that will make him one of the highest-paid defensive linemen in the NFL, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported that the four-year extension will be worth up to $90 million and include $60 million guaranteed. Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com reported that both the Giants and Lawrence had been working on the terms of his deal since the conclusion of the 2022 regular season.
Lawrence, who has never missed a game for the franchise, is coming off his best season for the Giants. He posted a career-high in tackles (68), sacks (7.5) and quarterback hits (28). With Lawrence’s new extension, it marks another significant move made by New York general manager Joe Schoen involving a players that was drafted by the franchise’s previous leadership.
Schoen signed Daniel Jones, the No. 6 pick in the 2019 NFL draft, to a four-year contract worth $160 million with a potential additional $35 million in incentives in March. Now, Lawrence, who was also drafted by former general manager Dave Gettleman at No. 17 in the ’19 NFL draft, joins Jones as the second player that Schoen signed to a new long-term deal ahead of the 2023 season.
