Giant 'meteor' falls to earth as giant UFO fireball rockets across Ayrshire skies

A suspected meteor roared over Ayrshire skies last night leaving residents stunned.

The huge fireball lit up the night sky just before 10pm and appeared to be visible throughout Ayrshire and beyond.

Locals in Ayr, Kilmarnock, Irvine, Ardrossan, Prestwick, Saltcoats, Alloway, Drongan and Drybridge have reported seeing the glowing object rocketing through the air.

It's understood that the the UFO was also spotted in Glasgow, Edinburgh, the Borders, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire, as well as Ireland.

The spectacular sight was witnessed by many people on social media with a number of locals describing the object as being 'rocket-like'.

One person wrote on social media last night: "Saw it in Kilmarnock earlier on there, was standing out the front talking to my mum and both of us were shocked when it was going past us and neither of us could get our phones out quickly enough for capture it."

Another added: "Could be space junk, the way it's breaking up. Either that or a magnesium rich meteor, hence the colour."

A Prestwick resident said: "Thank goodness someone caught it! I was saying to my hubby that a weird light was going by our window... at least I can say I’m not nuts.

"I have to add that we are right by Prestwick airport - hubby said it was probably a jet but there was no noise."
