Gianluca Scamacca, Kurt Zouma, Maxwel Cornet - West Ham injuries ahead of Chelsea clash

West Ham United will be looking to pick up a London derby victory on Saturday lunchtime when they host Chelsea at the London Stadium

The Hammers are in an upturn in form at present and despite sitting 16th in the table and clear of the relegation zone by just one point, they have lost just once in their last five matches, holding Champions League hopefuls Newcastle United to a 1-1 draw two days ago.

Ahead of the London derby, here is a look at West Ham’s current list of absentees.

Maxwel Cornet (calf)

Having returned to training with the rest of the group at the end of November, winger Maxwel Cornet has suffered another setback on his return to action.

Cornet has not featured since making his full Premier League debut for West Ham on October 1, has been out of action for four months, with Moyes still unsure of when Cornet will return fully.

Ahead of the game at Newcastle, Moyes confirmed that Cornet remained absent and has returned to Paris, where he has conducted much of his rehab.

Gianluca Scamacca (knee)

Striker Gianluca Scamacca is currently on the treatment table after suffering a knee injury.

The Italian, who has scored seven goals this season, has missed the last two wins over Everton and Derby, as well as the trip to Newcastle, having suffered a knee injury against Leeds United last month

Speaking ahead of Newcastle, Moyes confirmed that Scamacca was still out, but having recently posted that he was aiming to be back soon via his Instagram account, the hope is that the Italian is eyeing a return.

Kurt Zouma (thigh)

Having only returned from a two-month absence due to knee surgery in the win over Everton last month, French centre-back Kurt Zouma is now back on the treatment table.

The former Chelsea defender suffered a small tear in his thigh in the first half of the win over his former side but played the duration of the match.

Speaking on Zouma, Moyes said that he hopes that his history of recovering from injuries quickly means Zouma is not absent for too long.

“He’s back. We think there’s a little bit of a tear at the top of his thigh,” Moyes told football.london .

“We’ve not really put any date on it because we generally are trying to get a correct diagnosis, how long we think he is going to be.

“He is a very quick healer, Kurt, if I’m being honest so hopefully, it’s not going to be too bad.”

Alphonse Areola (hamstring)

Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola missed the trip to Newcastle with a hamstring injury suffered in training.

The French World Cup winner has been a back up to Lukasz Fabianski since the start of last season.

His absence led to manager Moyes naming third-choice goalkeeper Joseph Anang and academy stopper Krisztian Hegyi both on the bench at St James’ Park.
