West Ham-bound: Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca has agreed personal terms over a move to east London
(Picture: Getty Images)Gianluca Scamacca is set to become West Ham’s fourth signing of the summer after agreeing personal terms ahead of his move to the London Stadium.
The Hammers agreed a £30.5million deal with Serie A side Sassuolo last week, which could rise a further £5m with add-ons.
The Italy forward is set to arrive in London on Monday and will undergo a medical before signing for last season’s Europa League semi-finalists.
The 23-year-old scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A appearances last term and made his Italy debut in September, before going on to feature in the goalless Nations League draw against England at Molineux last month.
The Irons have already signed goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, defender Nayef Aguerd and midfielder Flynn Downes this summer, but Scamacca’s arrival would finally mark the end of David Moyes’ protracted search for a new centre-forward.
The Scot has tried and failed to bring in competition to Michail Antonio in each of the past two transfer windows following Sebastien Haller’s departure to Ajax in January 2021 and the need has been made all the more pressing this summer after forward Andriy Yarmolenko left the club at the end of his contract.
With Moyes looking to manage Antonio’s pre-season minutes, Jarrod Bowen started at centre-forward during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Championship side Luton but was largely ineffective and the experiment was abandoned at half-time.
The Irons remain in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a deal for wing-back Filip Kostic, who shares the same agent as Scamacca.
