Giorgos Giakoumakis has agreed a deal with Urawa Red Diamonds and will jet out to Japan in the coming days to undergo medical checks, according to a report.
The future of the hitman at Celtic has been up in the air after talks over fresh terms at the Scottish champions broke down. The Greece international - who joined the club 18 months ago in a £2.5million deal from VVV-Venlo - has mainly played second fiddle under Ange Postecoglou to star forward Kyogo Furuhashi. It's believed talks over an increased salary didn't look like it would be reached and the Parkhead side have now decided to cash in.
The J-League outfit - who faced reported competition from a number of clubs - are now believed to have landed their man with Japanese outlet Sponichi claiming he is on his way to the country to undergo a medical before putting the final touches on his move. The news comes just hours before Celtic face Kilmarnock at Hampden in the Viaplay Cup semi-finals as the holders bid to reach the final and retain the trophy they won last season.
The Celtic striker boasts 25 goals in just 56 appearances. A fair number of those minutes have come from the bench with the striker grabbing eight goals in all competitions so far this campaign.
The hitman has failed to start since the return from the Premiership winter shutdown with team-mate Furuhashi in top form for the league leaders.
The 28-year-old experienced Champions League football earlier this season with Celtic making appearances in all six group games and found the net against Shakhtar Donetsk.
