Ghostface returns in new Scream trailer and fans are feeling nostalgic

Ghostface is returning to the big screen after ten years as the new Scream film trailer dropped on Tuesday.

The latest installment of the American slasher horror series sees a new spate of murders, causing Dewey (David Arquette) to ask Sidney (Neve Campbell) to come back to Woodsboro in order hunt down the killer - and of course they had to team up with Gale (Courteney Cox).

While fans of the films loved seeing the reunion of the franchise’s most iconic characters, we are also introduced to some new stars in the trailer - including Jenna Ortega from You, Dylan Minette from 13 Reasons Why, Jack Quaid from The Boys.

(Though judging from the trailer, Ortega’s character looks like she might be in some trouble after she comes face-to-face with Ghostface, getting slashed in the process).

But, Ortega isn’t the only one to be confronted by the infamous masked killer, because at the end of the trailer we see Sidney and Ghostface meet with the murderer greeting her saying: “Hello Sidney, it’s an honour.”

We imagine the feeling isn’t mutual.

Scream - named after the original 1996 film - is set to be released in January 2022 and fans are certainly hyped after seeing the trailer.

Meanwhile, avid fans of the franchise were feeling nostalgic and couldn’t help but compare the trailer with the original film.

Some shared their disappointment at the trailer while some shared their worry over the release date being just after Christmas.

Though some shared their love for a horror movie visit just after the festive period and noted that the original film was released in American just before Christmas on December 20.

Elsewhere many were hyped after her Ghostface say the iconic line: “Hello Sidney, its an honour,” some saying it even gave them chills.

Courteney Cox has described the new film as a “new franchise.”

She told former Scream co-star Drew Barrymore on her talk show The Drew Barrymore Show: “It’s hip, it’s scary, it’s just a new Scream. It’s not a reboot, it’s not a remake, it’s just a brand new launch. I think it’s gonna be fantastic.”

Scream will be released in cinema on January 14 2022.
