Ghost writers go to war over Prince Harry’s memoir Spare

Prince Harry’s collaborator on his memoir has started a battle of the ghostwriters. In a new piece for the New Yorker, J.R. Moehringer reflects on the process of writing Spare, including his “exasperation” with the Prince, and reaction to the book.

He also takes aim at Andrew O’Hagan, a rival who penned a negative review of Spare for the London Review of Books with the headline “Off His Royal Tits”. Moehringer hits back, saying he read O’Hagan’s work on ghosting for Julian Assange and “it sounded to me like Elon Musk on mushrooms — on Mars”.

O’Hagan had said Moehringer “goes all Sartre and Faulkner” at times, and is “insane” for not warning Harry that his comments on fighting in Afghanistan would be seen as insensitive. Can you fight a ghost?

Jerry moves on swiftly, with cigar in hand

Jerry Hall on the front cover of Carcy magazine (Carcy)

Jerry Hall isn’t letting her split from Rupert Murdoch last year get her down, going back to her modelling roots. First Hall signed up to be the face of an H&M and Mugler campaign, and now she’s done a photoshoot for the cover of French Carcy magazine, smoking a cigar.

The divorce note from 92-year-old Murdoch to Hall last yera reportedly stated that they had “good times” but also said “I have much to do”, while the settlement forbids her from selling ideas for plot lines about him to the TV show Succession, the fictional hit series about a media baron and his family.

Will the wheel come off in Camden?

Camden Wheel

Plans for a 41m Ferris wheel in Camden are meeting strong opposition. Artist David Gentleman, who is famous for drawing picures of the area and has lived there for nearly 70 years, says an Observation Wheel in Dead Dog Basin is an “appalling idea”, reports the Camden New Journal. Planners say the wheel would only be there five years, but there have been many letters of objection to the move.

Globetrotting naturalist Sir David Attenborough says he last went on a real holiday “about 20 years ago.” Speaking to The Oldie on his 97th birthday, Sir David says he’s always thought holidays were “for kids”. While he still works on location with camera crews, he’s “a hopeless traveller”, and adds: “Now I’m in my 90s, home is where I want to be.”

Contis go large for the park

Three generations of acting Contis were at the Park Theatre’s 10th Anniversary party on Sunday. Neil Morrissey and Sir Ian McKellen also went. At the Coronation concert at Windsor Castle, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and his wife Susannah mixed with fashionistas including Naomi Campbell and Vogue editor Edward Enninful, while last week singer Ashley Roberts helped TV presenter Laura Whitmore launch her colab with Love & Roses at Marylebone’s Treehouse hotel.
