'Ghost' spotted walking out of grave in new James May Amazon Prime series

Viewers of Amazon Prime's new documentary, James May: Our Man in Italy, quickly took to social media after spotting a 'ghost' in the background of the former Top Gear presenter's piece to camera. Whilst May was talking about how he was standing in front of a mass grave, what appeared to be a spooky apparition, was briefly captured on screen.

The faint and undefined figure appeared to be human in shape. TikTok user, deejaybrooksie was one person who picked up on the eerie moment. The viewer posted a video and commented: "Just been watching James May's new program Our Man in Italy on Amazon Prime and we spotted this in the background."

The video, which has amassed 174.7K views on the platform, caught the attention of May himself, who responded on Twitter to give his thoughts on the creepy spectacle. Writing on Twitter, he wrote: "My thanks to everyone who has pointed out the ‘ghost’ in ep3 of my new Italy series. Nobody saw it at the time, so it’s either a real ghost or (more likely but also more boring) just a bit of digital file corruption."

But what do you think? Some people believe that it is a clever ploy by the producers to create buzz around the show. Responding to May's tweet, one person wrote: "I've just spotted another ghost in ep4 at 15mins. I have a feeling there's an editor having a giggle or it's a clever marketing strategy to generate social media buzz. Fun little Easter egg."

Of course, there is the possibility that May is right and the ghost is merely a case of 'file corruption'. Sometimes, casual passerby-people are edited out of the background of shots. Considering how there are other examples of 'ghosts' in the series, this could be a rational explanation.

One notable person who was quick to believe that it was a 'ghost' was Harry Potter actor, Chris Rankin, who commented on Twitter: "Nope, it's a ghost."

The official synopsis of the Amazon Prime series teases: "For James, Italy has always felt like a country that doesn’t seem to make sense. On the one hand, Italy is often regarded to be on the cutting edge – of science, fashion, and engineering, yet its economic infrastructure has fallen on very hard times. Somehow, though, Italy and the Italians always prevail."
