A drone has captured footage of an unusual image in a woodland where multiple walkers have reported being stalked by a ghost.
The image was taken in Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, where people have been reporting sightings of the “black eyed girl” since the 1980s.
Professional ghost hunters have now said the footage could be proof of supernatural activity in the area.
One of these is Robert Pulme, who describes the activity as “terrifying”.
He said: “Cannock Chase is considered one of the most haunted places in Britain, so it is no surprise the area draws in lots of rumours about beasts and ghouls.
"We have had lots of reports of a ‘black eyed girl’ seen walking around. At first she appears like a normal girl and walkers are worried a little girl is lost in the woods.
"Then they see her eyes and she just disappears. It is terrifying.”
Rober believes he may understand why this particular spirit is haunting the woods, as a diptheria outbreak in the 1800s claimed the lives of local children.
The disease made the victim’s eyes appear sunken and dark.
However, it has been suggested that the ghost could be the victim of a local murderer.
Raymond Morris killed three children in the area, between 1965 and 1967.
Yet other people who have seen the drone footage merely dismissed it as “fake” and a “person dressed up”.
According to Birmingham Live, a pair of teenagers came across the ghostly girl while camping at Cannock Chase in 2021.
The young couple had set up their tent in the Birches Valley area.
Settling for the night, the pair heard noises around their tent at midnight. Deciding to take a peek, they heard the sound of a child giggling, before seeing a shadowy figure moving between trees.
Of the experience, one of the teenagers said: “I was absolutely terrified. I’d read the stories in the news about the black-eyed child, but it wasn’t until the thing stood right in front of me that I could quite believe them.
“I knew instantly that we were dealing with the real thing because it moved in ways humans simply can’t move. It was like it could teleport from one place to another when it was moving around and hiding behind the trees.”
They said that the girl then disappeared, leaving the pair unable to sleep and waiting for sunrise.
The next morning, the couple spotted the girl a second time, while walking back to the car, describing her having black eyes, peering from behind an oak tree.
An expert on supernatural activity in the area, Lee Brickley, also told the Daily Star of another incident in Cannock Chase.
He said: “There was also another incident in October 2019 when a young girl chased after the black eyed child near Castle Ring, and again, she was unable to catch up with her.
"The girl involved ran through the trees following the black eyed child until she reached a sheer cliff-edge drop of around twenty feet. Had she not managed to slow her pace and avoid the fall, the girl would have come to serious harm".
