Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyers are suing her alongside her husband and brother for more than £1million over unpaid legal fees.
The legal team that represented her in court are pursuing her, brother Kevin, 63, and estranged husband Scott Borgerson, 45, accusing the disgraced socialite of hiding her multi-million-pound fortune.
Maxwell, 60, is serving 20 years in the US for the enticement of minors and sex trafficking of underage girls for her ex Jeffrey Epstein to abuse.
Haddon, Morgan & Foreman represented her in her civil case with Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre, and she retained them for her criminal trial.
HMF say they were told Kevin Maxwell would oversee her defence fees, documents submitted to court show.
But they claim the agreed retainers were not paid other than “a handful of sporadic payments”.
The firm says it was repeatedly told by Mr Maxwell that Borgerson was in control of Maxwell’s assets and that it was because of him the payments were delayed. HMF claims Borgerson set up two limited liability companies and used Maxwell’s fortune to buy properties in Massachusetts and New Hampshire to shelter her wealth.
By the end of her trial last year she had racked up £811,000 in legal fees.HMF’s lawsuit claims Mr Maxwell paid £122,000 in January but by June the unpaid balance was £745,000.
It is demanding payment, damages, costs, interest and other expenses totalling over £1million. Borgerson was asked to comment. Mr Maxwell could not be reached today.
