GHD Rise Hot Brush review: the wand for quick-fix volume

GHD has long been revolutionising the hair tools game. After the Glide sold out in just two weeks, the beauty world has been waiting with bated breath to see what was next for the label - and this latest launch doesn't disappoint.

What is the GHD Rise?

The Rise is the brand’s very first smart 3D hot brush that is designed to make your hair more voluminous and more manageable - what more can you ask?

The device can be used to breathe new life into your locks as you glide it from the roots to the tip with a lifting action, creating fuller, bouncier styles.

The Rise makes it easier than ever to get that fresh-from-the-salon look. If you’re like us, and you find it challenging to use a brush and a dryer at the same time, this tool is complete with nylon bristles for two-in-one to give the look of a blow-out, but should only be used on dry hair.

It gets to work smoothing your locks with anti-frizz action while adding body and movement. You can even use it as a brush. The bristles are specially designed to allow them to get as close as possible to the root of your hair to prevent tangled knots.

How does the GHD Rise work?

The smart device uses state-of-the-art technology to adapt and optimise to your hair’s needs. It registers the temperature 250 times per second to ensure it consistently remains at the optimal 185 degrees throughout the 32mm barrel. Traditionally when you would wrap your locks around the wand, the strands would suck in the energy, causing the temperature to drop - but no longer thanks to the Rise. It means you don’t have to grip your hair as long and thus the curling and lifting process can be done in record timing.

Depending on whether you use the wand vertically or horizontally, you can create different styles.

For voluminous, bombshell waves, section out your hair. Ensure the wand is pointed up and wrap it from underneath the root around the barrel. Hold for around five second and glide your strands outwards, looping your locks as you go.

For a more full-bodied style, section once again but wrap the hair around the horizontally-placed rise from the root. Repeat for the whole head. In both looks, pay particular attention to the crown as this is key to creating a voluminous look.

Review of the GHD Rise

I have thin, long locks that are seriously lacking in volume. I tend to steer clear of curling as it’s usually a waste of time for my hair type - they drop out in a matter of minutes.

For a styling novice like myself, it does take a bit of time to get used to the Rise. But once you do, it becomes so easy to customise it to create whatever look and make it work for your hair - and most importantly, it does it in a fraction of the time of traditional wands. The swivel cord also allows you to get a full range of movement.

When the hair is prepped, the consistently hot temperature holds the curls much better than any device I’ve used in the past and the style looks much more full-bodied. It’s a win from me.
