Jordan Allan is desperate to help Airdrie get back into the Championship, having been part of a Diamonds side that dropped out of the second tier.
The 23-year-old striker is in his third spell at Airdrie, and helped them stretch their unbeaten run to a new club record of 20 games in the 1-1 draw at home to Peterhead yesterday.
Allan started his career at Airdrie but was relegated with them in 2013. A move to Wolverhampton Wanderers followed, but he was loaned back to New Broomfield in 2017 from the English side, and signed again for a third time last year.
He is particularly eager, then, to see the Diamonds back up in the Championship, and hopes to play his part.
Allan said: "It would be brilliant to get the club back to the Championship. I've got good history with the club, I actually played in the last home game when we got relegated from the Championship, so it would be an unbelievable achievement to get up there.
"Hopefully we can do it and put a smile back on the fans' faces."
Allan admits Saturday's game against Peterhead was a tough one, but with seven changes in the side to give others some game-time, he says that was always likely.
The striker insists the players were unaware of the record they were about to set, but is glad that they have, even if it didn't result in the League One title.
He said: "It was a tough game, but we managed to keep the unbeaten run going, which is always pleasing.
"We never actually knew about the record until last week. It never crossed our mind, we just wanted to try and win every game, with the players we've got.
"We haven't managed to win every game, but to keep an unbeaten record like that is remarkable, and it's got to be applauded.
"It has to be admired, the season that we've had, and it didn't fall for us because we didn't win the league.
"Usually records like that, you end up winning the league at the end of it - but it is what it is, and we go into the play-offs high on confidence.
"Especially through the last couple of weeks; when things have got tough, you've got to dig deep and get the result, and we have done, which is always pleasing.
"We now go into the play-offs full of confidence, and we've worked hard to get there, so we want to keep it going, get a good result on Tuesday and take it back to Airdrie on Saturday.
"The fans have been right behind us since the start of the season, and hopefully we get another right good turn-out for the start of the play-offs on Tuesday and Saturday again."
Allan added: "Anything can happen in a play-off, football is absolutely mad. Things can happen in a matter of seconds, it's about how we go into the game and we've got to start well.
"We've got to go into it full of confidence. With the run we've been on, the games behind us don't really matter and it's about taking that momentum into the game."
