Get your sunglasses at the ready - spring weather should be sprung on Renfrewshire this weekend

Renfrewshire could be set to bask in some early spring sunshine as bookies slash odds on warm temperatures.

The Met Office predicts temperatures could reach 18 degrees on Saturday as southerly winds are expected to fuel a surge in the mercury across the central belt.

It comes as bookmakers Coral slash odds, from 2-1 down to 1-2, on temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius or higher being recorded in the UK in March.

They are also offering odds of 4-5 on April being the hottest since UK records began, with predictions that a late Easter this year could see the celebration fall amidst a heatwave.

But their faith could prove premature as the Met Office predict that in the central belt, including Renfrewshire, that: "Sunday will be dry with plenty of sunshine, but temperatures down from Saturday. Continuing dry for Monday, but turning a touch cloudier."

Temperatures are set to hover around 14 or 15 degrees for much of next week, bringing a touch of warmth to the air in Renfrewshire.

The long range forecast until the end of March, however, predicts that "most areas are set to become dry and settled", although "overnight fog and frost is possible".

Essentially though, Met Office forecasters predict that: "Temperatures will then most likely be close to, or slightly above, the long-term average."

Predictions suggest April could be true to form with 'April showers', as forecasters say it will bring weather which is "more changeable", featuring "spells of drier weather interspersed with showers or longer periods of rainfall".

They say periods of strong winds are also likely across the north of the UK but temperatures are predicted to still be "close to or slightly above average".

But bookies are not taking any chances.

John Hill, of Coral, said: "It feels like spring has sprung early this year. We have slashed the odds on 20C or higher being recorded in the UK before March is out.

"Looking further ahead, it looks like we are set for a scorching April."They say a heatwave is forecast around Easter, adding: "With a heatwave on its way, the odds on a record hot April are melting all the time. We look set for a glorious month in April.

"Next month is going to feel like summer has come early, with our betting suggesting temperatures will climb into the early 30s."

Meterologists at Accuweather also cast doubt on bookies' hopes, with early predictions for much of April showing highs of 14 degrees in Renfrewshire.
