Get your luggage off the plane first this summer with these sneaky hacks

Often, travelling can be a stressful affair. From worrying about going through security and hoping your suitcase will make it in one piece to wishing for a delay-free flight so you make that train, there can be a lot to think about.

Holiday-makers do not need to worry about their luggage any longer though, as some simple steps can ensure that their suitcase is the first off the carousel this summer after landing.

While it might seem intuitive to get to the airport first to check in your luggage, one suggestion was to arrive as late as possible at the check-in desk.

This is because, in theory, if your bags were loaded last onto the plane, they should be first off when you reach your destination, Escape.com shared.

Thomas Lo Sciuto, a ramp worker and gate agent at a regional airport in the US, told Quora: "Bags will always be loaded front to back on the bag carts so if you check in last your bags will be in the last bag cart."

However, this one has been dubbed as a "high-risk strategy” as the more organised amongst us may be panicking at the thought of leaving checking in until the last minute, the Mirror reports.

One other option was to "gate-check" your bag. This means handing it over at check-in to put in the cargo hold, but it typically sees it left beside the access door ready for swift unloading upon landing. This might mean additional security checks for your luggage, alongside an extra charge, but it will guarantee your case will be one of the first off.

Some airlines will even allow passengers to pay extra to get their luggage off first, especially if they are heading business class or they've signed up for a loyalty scheme.

Another hack, according to news.com.au, is asking for a "fragile" sticker for your luggage.

This could speed up your wait time as the sticker will impact what order the bags are placed in, as baggage that is labelled as fragile will go in last meaning it is out first.

And, it could also be a good idea to remove any old tags from luggage, as well as opt for suitcases that stand out from the crowd.
