For a lot of old school gamers, Contra is one of those games that they recall with a fond memory. The thing is the new generation now has a chance to experience something similar with Contra: Operation Galuga. It's basically Contra that's been reborn, reimagined, and reloaded. The game is now on Steam and currently being offered at 10% off. In addition, those who buy the game early have the chance to receive 1000 Contra credits that they can use over in the in-game Perk store.
As a quick background, the first Contra game was released as an arcade video game back in 1987 and became one of the four highest-grossing arcade games of that year. A home version of this run and gun video game made available for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988 which became both a critical and commercial success.
For this latest title, players can look forward to a complete reimagining of the classic game with modern graphics and sound. There's also new stages, new enemies, new bosses, and even new play mechanics. The game also introduces an updated weapon system along with a co-op combat for up to two players in Story Mode or four players in Arcade Mode.
Contra: Operation Galuga sees the terrorist group Red Falcon taking over the Galuga Islands that's just off the coast of New Zealand. With this, the elite Contra commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean have initiated an all-out war where the fate of mankind hangs in the balance. Like the original game, players get to run, jump, and of course shoot, their way across eight levels. Along the way they get to make use of a wide range of weapons like the laser, spread shot, and homing missiles. This time around these weapons not only have stackable upgrades but also Overload abilities. Players can customize the action through the three difficulty settings.
