Anyone who wants to support the amazing work of local charity Carers of West Lothian should get down to The Centre Livingston this weekend.
The team has just been announced as November’s charity partner at The Centre, Livingston, which is part of its Support in the Community Initiative.
It aims to help a different organisation every month to raise funds and awareness and also present them with a £250 Gift Card donation.
Carers of West Lothian, (CoWL), offers a range of services to help meet the needs of unpaid carers, young carers and disabled people in the local community.
It was founded by a small group of carers in 1990 who recognised the need for more information and support which many carers, like themselves, found difficult to find.
They offer a wide range of services, advice and support, including one-to-one emotional support, hospital-based carer support, peer support groups, counselling, short break funding, signposting and referral to support services, and individual and group support for young carers and young adult carers.
They also run various group sessions including the Senior Young Carer Group, Carers Coffee Morning Group, Junior Young Carer Group, a Mental Health Carers
Support Group, an Evening Social Group for people with disabilities and a number of online events.
CoWL also provides free information and advice to anyone living in West Lothian with a physical and/or learning disability or an unpaid carer. This includes benefits advice and support with form filling, a Power of Attorney clinic, training opportunities and the chance to have a say on local services.
The charity is always looking to add volunteers to their team and has a variety of roles suitable for a wide range of skills from helping with creating newsletters to being a volunteer counsellor or driver with their Young Carers Service.
As part of the charity partnership, CoWL will be in The Centre, Livingston on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 November to raise awareness of their services.
Wilma Murray, Senior Young Carer Development Worker at Carers of West Lothian, said: “We are delighted to be the new monthly charity partner at The Centre, Livingston and really appreciate the opportunity to raise awareness of all of the services we offer in the local community, including counselling and short break funding, to help unpaid carers and disabled people with the support and information they need to ensure they have a better quality of life.”
Ashley Bisland, Deputy Centre Director at The Centre, Livingston, added: “Our Support in the Community initiative is a great way for us to support a different charity every month, whether is to help fundraise, appeal for donations or general awareness raising.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming Carers of West Lothian into the mall who will have the opportunity to highlight the fantastic services they offer and really showcase the great work they do.”
