Get a Jump on Spring's Sheer Skirt Trend With These Layer-Ready Versions You Can Wear Now

One of the most prevalent Spring 2024 trends are sheer skirts. They were literally everywhere. Alaïa offered up several Peach Fuzz takes. Prada supplied a cherry red number and an embellished creation. Givenchy littered its runway with sheer and semi-sheer skirts along with see-through tops. But Miu Miu was once again ahead of the curve flaunting several iterations for Fall 2023, which makes sense since the brand also sent no-pants looks down the same runway.

While the craze was planned to go mainstream once the weather warms up, you don't have to wait to test drive the trend. All you have to do is look to the street style set to pick up tips on how to wear them right now. During Copenhagen Fashion Week Fall 2024, several attendees layered sheer skirts over pants. It's an updated spin on the rather notorious early 2000s-era obsession with slipping on dresses over everything from jeans to leggings.

The trick is to insulate your legs so you can't even tell it's freezing out. Obviously, it also makes tackling the see-through movement less intimating since you're not really revealing anything. If you're not feeling skirts over pants, swap out the pants in favor of cotton or wool tights. Extra points for rocking a red pair. It's also important to stay toasty up top so sport a heavy sweater or a heavy coat or a light coat under a heavy coat. The possibilities aren't endless, but pretty strong.

You'll have to decide if you want to go the midi or maxi route. Next, you'll need to consider if you want completely sheer or to play a little peekaboo with lace or laser-cut accents. The variety doesn't end there, however. Reformation's collaboration with the New York City Ballet gives us a ballerina-approved full skirt. That way you can simultaneously tap into the balletcore obsession, too. Or you can take extra precaution by opting for a sweater skirt.

Once spring arrives, you'll still need to layer. Well, at least for modesty's sake. You can slip yours on over short shorts, bike shorts or even another skirt. Once again, there are many avenues you can travel down. Which is what makes sheer skirts such versatile pieces.
