Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia is on, although they’ll have to take care of other business first.
The gifted 135-pound contenders will take interim fights against unnamed opponents in January and then face one another at a catch-weight of 136 pounds a few months after that, according to reports and a tweet from Davis.
No official details about the fights in January have been made available, although Davis indicated on Instagram that his bout would take place in Washington, D.C.
I’ll be back in the ring Jan 7 stay tuned for more details! After that it’s me and Ryan signed sealed delivered…done deal!

“I’ll be back in the ring Jan 7 stay tuned for more details! After that it’s me and Ryan signed sealed delivered…done deal!” Davis tweeted.
Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) vs. Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) is one of the best possible matchups in the sport.
They are both young, skillful boxers with one-punch knockout power, which should make their meeting as explosive as any matchup. And they are two of the most popular fighters on the planet, with millions of social media followers.
It doesn’t get much better than this, at least on paper.
“Boxing NEEDS this fight right now,” Garcia tweeted. “It’s time for us to get back to what made this sport so great for the fans: Glamorous fights in places like Las Vegas, grudge match storylines, and most importantly — the best fighting the best.”

Davis, 28, is a former two-time 130-pound titleholder who also won secondary titles at 135 and 140, going 5-0 (5 KOs) in championship fights. He gave all of his belts.
The Baltimore product is coming off a sixth-round knockout of Rolando Romero at 135 this past May. That followed a unanimous decision over stubborn Isaac Cruz in December, a bout in which Davis said he fought with an injured hand.
Garcia, 24, took a break from boxing last year to deal with his mental health but returned to defeat Emmanuel Tagoe (UD) and formidable Javier Fortuna (KO 6) in April and July in 140-pound bouts, respectively.
The Los Angeles-area fighter’s biggest victory came in January of last year, when he knocked out 2012 Olympic champion Luke Campbell in the seventh round at 135.
