Free man Gerry Hutch must return to Wheatfield Prison if he ever wants to secure his belongings - including a hefty sum of money.
Hutch (60) walked free from the Special Criminal Court after being found not guilty of the murder of David Byrne on Monday - and therefore left all of his belongings that he had in prison behind.
Sources say those belongings include clothes, books, jewellery and a sum of money.
But it is understood that only Gerry Hutch himself can reclaim that property by personally visiting Wheatfield Prison and signing off on their return.
However sources say Hutch, who has an ongoing threat on his life from the Kinahans, and who is believed to have possibly even already left the country, is not likely to do that any time soon.
It means the belongings, which are said to include a sizable amount of money, must be kept for him - in the event that he one day wants to reclaim them.
Items such as jewellery were kept in a safe at the prison while Hutch was in custody on a restricted landing.
The belongings cannot be used for other purposes and must be kept by prison authorities until such time that Hutch comes looking for them, sources say.
The notorious gangland figure spent over a year in Dublin’s Wheatfield Prison after he was dramatically flown into Baldonnel airport on a military plane - having been extradited from Spain.
‘The Monk’ was arrested on the foot of a European Arrest Warrant and when the plane landed he was charged with the murder of Kinahan cartel associate David Byrne on the evening of September 27, 2021.
However after a lengthy and dramatic trial before the non-jury Special Criminal Court, Hutch was sensationally found not guilty of Byrne’s murder - and walked free from court.
