Germany vs Hungary lineups: Starting XIs, Euro 2024 team news, injuries

Germany have named an unchanged starting line-up for today’s Euro 2024 clash with Hungary.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side emphatically dismissed any lingering doubts over their major tournament pedigree after uncharacteristic struggles over recent years as they blew away sorry Scotland 5-1 on opening night in Munich.

Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Niclas Fullkrug and Emre Can were all on the scoresheet on an evening to remember for the hosts, who notched the biggest opening-night victory in European Championship history to lay down a significant early marker in their quest for a fourth Euros success and first since 1996.

Germany captain Ilkay Gundogan suffered no ill effects as a result of Ryan Porteous’ woeful tackle that deservedly earned the Scotland defender a straight red card and now a two-game ban, and he slots in behind Havertz in a 4-2-3-1 setup.

With no other known injuries to contend with at present, Nagelsmann has stuck with the same side that routed the Scots as they look to make it two wins from two against a Hungary outfit reeling from their loss to Switzerland on opening weekend.

Marco Rossi’s side have been in excellent form over the past couple of years, though were 2-0 down at half-time in Cologne before Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Barnabas Varga gave them flickers of hope with 30 minutes to go that were eventually extinguished by a last-gasp third Swiss goal from Breel Embolo.

Rossi was distinctly unimpressed by his team’s display and has made changes for what looks like a very tough assignment indeed against the Germans, who in fairness they have not lost to in any of the last three meetings including a lively draw at Euro 2020. They also beat them last time out in the Nations League in September 2022.

Rapid Vienna’s Bendeguz Bolla comes in at right wing-back with Attila Fiola moved to the centre of defence and Marton Dardai introduced.

Germany XI: Neuer; Kimmich, Rudiger, Tah, Mittelstadt; Andrich, Kroos; Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz; Havertz

Subs: Raum, Gross, Fullkrug, Fuhrich, Baumann, Muller, Beier, Schlotterbeck, Anton, Sane, Henrichs, ter Stegen, Koch, Can, Undav

Hungary XI: Gulacsi; Fiola, Orban, Dardai; Bolla, A. Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez; Sallai, Szoboszlai, Varga

Subs: Lang, Balogh, Szalai, Nego, Adam, Dibusz, Kleinheisler, Gazdag, Styles, Z. Nagy, Botka, Szappanos, Csoboth, Horvath, Kata
