Passengers travelling on a popular European airline will be served a posh version of curry and chips for an in-flight meal. Customers of German-based Eurowings can order a version of the spicy snack during their flight.
Currywurst and French fries will be on the menu during Eurowings flights of more than an hour. It is one of Germany’s most popular dishes and around 800 million servings are eaten nationwide each year.
The fast-food favourite consists of sausage, typically cut into bite-sized chunks and seasoned with curry ketchup, topped with curry powder. Eurowings is the only German airline to offer customers the classic curry combination on board.
The snack is accompanied by a portion of the airline's "Fries in the Skies" chips and is available for 7.50 euros on board. Currywurst Day is celebrated on September 4 and it is also sold in stadiums, outdoor pools and snack bars
Lufthansa-owned Eurowings operates a fleet of around 100 aircraft to and from many European destinations, focussing on affordable products and services for passengers.
In its current summer schedule, the airline flies to more than 140 destinations, including several UK airports. With its extensive route network and 11 international bases, Eurowings is working to become Europe's premier low-cost operator.
