German media deliver Tyler Adams verdict saying Leeds United signing is coach's dream and great overall package

Leeds United confirmed the arrival of Tyler Adams from RB Leipzig earlier this week, with the United States international penning a long-term deal at Elland Road. It's the third time of Adams' career that he's signed for Jesse Marsch, having worked under the Whites' boss at New York Red Bulls and RB Leipzig.

Adams became the fifth arrival of a busy summer transfer window, with Luis Sinisterra taking that tally up to six new faces after signing on the dotted line. The Whites have wasted no time in adding to their squad this summer after a disappointing campaign last time out.

The Leeds hierarchy are no doubt keen to avoid a repeat of last season where they survived on the final day of the season. The loss of Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City came as a major blow, but as things stand, they've been able to hold onto Raphinha, whilst also adding to their squad.

Leeds Live spoke with RB Leipzig correspondent Stefan Krause from German publication Bild, for an insight into Tyler Adams' relationship with Jesse Marsch and what he'll bring to Elland Road.

Tyler Adams played for RB Leipzig under Jesse Marsch. What was their relationship like?

Stefan Krause: "Tyler Adams and Jesse Marsch have special relationship because Adams was a player in New York and Leipzig with him as a coach. At the age of 16 Adams signed his first professional contract at the New York Red Bulls. Adams later said: "When I was 16, he convinced me to sign the contract with the Red Bulls. He already had my career in mind back then.”

"Marsch was impressed with his personality on the pitch and push RB Leipzig to sign him after his move from New York to Leipzig as assistant coach to Ralf Rangnick. Leeds is now the pairs third reunion."

What kind of player is Adams and what attributes can he bring to Leeds United?

SK: "Tyler is a pretty powerful player. He can play as a six, eight and right-sided defender. Tyler can run fast and with endurance. He has a great mentality, is a good footballer and person.

"Marsch previously said: “It's a dream for a coach. Very inquisitive, needs and wants a lot of input, a lot of information, implements everything quickly. You can rely on him, a great overall package.“

How did Marsch utilise Adams at Leipzig?

SK: "Marsch had two systems in Leipzig. 4-4-2 and 5-3-2. In both systems Adams was the central midfielder in front of the defenders.

"Adams had a great communication but sometimes he did some mistakes under pressure when trying to transition quickly with his passes in his own half."

Is it a surprise to see Adams leave?

SK: "No, its not a surprise. Tedesco have four great central midfielders (Kampl, Laimer, Haidara, Adams) and a fifth as a new signing (Schlager from Wolfsburg). In the six month with Dominic Tedesco as a coach, Adams was third or fourth choice.

"And didn’t get so much time on the pitch. The main target for Tyler Adams was the Premier League, last year he had a offer from Leicester. Now, his dream has come true to play in the same league with his friend Christian Pulisic - from the national team."
