German conductor Sebastian Weigle will become the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra's 10th principal conductor in April 2019, the YNSO has announced.
Weigle, 57, who currently serves as general music director of the Oper Frankfurt, will succeed 69-year-old Sylvain Cambreling.
He will serve a three-year term running through March 2022.
Born in Berlin, Weigle is a hornist-turned-conductor who has made guest appearances at the Bayreuth Festival and other renowned galas such as at the Metropolitan Opera and has performed with various orchestras.
He is highly acclaimed for his conducting of works by German composers Wagner and Richard Strauss.
