Geri Horner's Union Jack Brit Award dress named most iconic outfit of all time

The Union Jack dress famously worn by Geri Horner while on stage with the Spice Girls has been named as the most iconic outfit of all time.

Geri took to the stage at the 1997 BRIT Awards in patriotic mini dress shortly after the group had reached number one in both the single and album charts in the US for the very first time.

The dress almost never came to be, as Geri had originally planned to wear a classic black dress, only to switch to the Union Jack number at the last minute, with her sister reportedly sewing it on hours before the ceremony.

Despite the Spice Girls taking home two awards that night, all anyone could talk about was Geri's dress.

The singer strutted down the stage as the band closed the show in the red, white and blue homemade number - and now it's been named as the most iconic outfit of all time by Nasty Gal.

In their list of gowns from the Nineties and the Noughties, Horner's dress came top ahead of some memorable competition.

Lady Gaga's famous "meat dress" - which saw the pop princess don a dress, hat, boots, and purse made of raw meat in 2010 as a statement about "one's need to fight for what one believes in" - ranked highly.

Also winning a lot of votes was Liz Hurley's safety pin dress (aka THAT dress), which she accompanied Hugh Grant to a movie premiere with.

All three caused shockwaves in the aftermath of their appearance on various stages and carpets, but Horner's was the most memorable for Nasty Gal fans.

Meanwhile, the Spice Girls are tipped to reunite for a special performance as part of HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations – with even Victoria Beckham set to return to the stage.

The ladies have reportedly been asked to take to the stage as a full band – with Mel B, Emma Bunton, Mel C, Geri and Vicky all expected to answer the call.

The group had previously been asked to perform at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, but were unable to do so.

However, a 2022 reunion would be the first time the group have been back together in full since their scene stealing moment at the 2012 London Olympic Games where they performed while riding atop black taxis.
