Geraldine Brooks: The Secret Chord

Broadcaster Kate Evans interviews Pulitzer prize-winning author Geraldine Brooks about her latest book, The Secret Chord. Her novel reimagines the story of King David’s extraordinary rise to power and his fall from grace. She paints a compelling portrait of the morally complex figure: a glamorous young tyrant, a murderous despot and a beloved king.

The Australian-born, American-based author worked as a foreign correspondent until she started writing longer form pieces. Her first book, Nine Parts of Desire, based on her experiences in the Middle East, was a bestseller. Her 2001 novel Year of Wonders launched her onto the fiction scene, and Brooks is now one of the nation’s most celebrated literary voices.
