BHUBANESWAR: Geotechnical investigation for Bhubaneswar metro rail project has been started. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), consultant of the project, has begun this survey work before commencement of the project’s construction work.
Geotechnical investigation gives knowledge about the physical properties of soil earthworks for proposed structures. The technical people assess the strength of soil before building any structure on it. They want to know whether the ground is suitable and strong enough to safely start construction of the project, said official sources.
The DMRC has started collecting soil samples from different places between Trisulia and Nandankanan. They will also collect such samples between Nandankanan and the city airport. After testing the soil, it can prepare the detailed project report (DPR) accordingly, said an official.
On Utkal Dibas (Odisha Statehood Day), Naveen had made an announcement about the metro rail project. In the first phase, around 30 km (from Trisulia in Cuttack to Biju Patnaik International Airport here) will be covered. It will also connect with Jatni and Khurda and later with Puri.
One month ago, housing and urban development department secretary G Mathi Vathanan had told the media that metro rail construction work will be a huge task including underground sewerage system and civil engineering work. He had given a hint about the government’s plan to float tender for the construction work.
Based on the DPR, the decision will be taken on routes, alignment and other related works. Master plan will be developed to integrate Bhubaneswar-Cuttack line with Khurda-Jatni line and the Puri line, said the official sources.
