Georginio Rutter's frank message to Leeds United fans after difficult debut season

Georginio Rutter believes Leeds United fans ‘deserved better’ after seeing their club relegated from the Premier League. The Whites succumbed to a bottom three finish last month with a 4-1 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season and as a result they will be playing second tier football next season.

Rutter only joined the club in January, making the switch from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim for a club record fee. Unfortunately, though, much to the frustration of supporters, it seems as though he struggled to settle into Elland Road life.

The Frenchman, who is still only 21-years-old, made just one Premier League start for the Whites alongside a handful of late appearances off the bench after finding opportunities hard to come by. As such, he failed to make an impact on the Whites’ fortunes as they slumped towards the relegation zone.

However, while the club continue to come to terms with the loss of their top flight status, Rutter has sent a message to supporters on Instagram.

“We failed in our mission and we’re all disappointed with the end result,” Rutter wrote on social media, alongside a picture of himself in the white of Leeds. “Thank you to the fans for their support, you deserved better from us.”

Where Rutter will be playing his football next season is currently up in the air. The club are expected to offload a number of high profile players this summer with the likes of Wilfried Gnonto, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams being linked with moves away from West Yorkshire already.

If Leeds were to keep hold of Rutter, though, they would no doubt be looking to him to spearhead a promotion charge in the Championship next season.
