Georgia Bulldogs transfer pass rusher Damon Wilson is predicted to commit to Ohio State, per On3. Wilson is ranked as the No. 5 player and No. 2 pass rusher in the transfer portal according to 247Sports.
In a surprise move, Wilson announced his decision to transfer on Jan. 6. Wilson was set to start in Georgia’s front-seven in 2025 and figured to be UGA’s top edge rusher.
Wilson was a five-star recruit that signed with Georgia in 2022. Ohio State also heavily pursued Wilson when he was in high school. In his two-year career at Georgia, Wilson totaled 22 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles. Those forced fumbles came in crucial moments against Tennessee and Texas.
Wilson is a big-game player and whoever ends up landing him will be able to develop him into a star. He still has two more years of eligibility.
Ohio State is the hottest team in college football right now. After losing to Michigan to end the regular season, the Buckeyes entered the College Football Playoff and demolished No. 9 Tennessee, 42-17, and No. 1 Oregon, 41-21. ESPN favors, slightly, the Texas Longhorns to win the Cotton Bowl against Ohio State, but the Buckeyes have the better playoff resume so far. If they get Wilson, that would greatly improve their outlook for 2025.
Georgia lost a large number of players in the front seven. Sam M’Pemba transferred to Texas A&M. Jamaal Jarrett transferred to USC, and Troy Bowles went to Michigan. Georgia players Mykel Williams, Jalon Walker, Smael Mondon, Warren Brinson, Nazir Stackhouse and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins declared for NFL draft. The Dawgs are going to have to address the defensive line and outside linebacker group in the transfer portal.
