A Georgia state senator had his ban from entering the state House chamber revoked after an incident that occurred during Gov. Brian Kemp's State of the State Address. State Sen. Colton Moore, a strong supporter of President-elect Trump, was involved in a confrontation at the entrance to the House chamber. Moore was pushed to the floor by a lawyer for House Speaker Jon Burns' office, resulting in his arrest and hospitalization.
Moore had been banned from the chamber for criticizing a resolution to name a building after the late former house speaker David Ralston. Despite attempts to enter, Moore was arrested by state troopers. He later posted a video from the hospital, showing injuries sustained during the altercation.
House Speaker Burns initially condemned Moore's actions, citing a breach of decorum and safety. However, the ban was lifted after support from Senate and Republican Party leaders. Burns emphasized the importance of upholding legislative decorum but allowed Moore to attend future joint sessions without an apology.
Moore's ban stemmed from a previous speech criticizing Ralston's conduct. This is not the first time Moore has clashed with Republican colleagues, having been suspended in 2023 for advocating the impeachment of District Attorney Fani Willis.
Moore's involvement in the Willis case led to his arrest on a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of law enforcement officers. Despite the legal issues, Moore's supporters posted his bail after he took a mug shot reminiscent of former President Trump's.
As of now, there is no update on whether the charges against Moore will be dropped. The incident has highlighted tensions within the Georgia legislature and the challenges of maintaining decorum and order during legislative proceedings.
