Georgia’s Jalen Carter responds to charges via Twitter

Georgia star defensive lineman Jalen Carter did not meet with the media on Wednesday at the NFL combine.

Instead, the expected high pick in the 2023 NFL draft, tweeted that he will return to Athens, Ga, to address charges he faces associated with a fatal crash in January that cost a Bulldog football player Devin Willock, and staffer, Chandler LeCroy, their lives.

Carter tweeted he is returning to Georgia to meet with authorities to “answer the misdemeanor charges against me and to make certain that the complete and accurate truth is presented.

“… There is no question in my mind that when all of the facts are known that I will be fully exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing.”

Carter was expected to address the arrest warrant when he returns to Athens, according to Lt. Shaun Barnett of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

“It is my understanding that Mr. Carter is making arrangements to turn himself in,” Barnett said in an e-mail to the AP.

The Athens-Clarke County (Georgia) Police Department issued an arrest warrant, obtained Wednesday, which alleges Carter was racing his 2021 Jeep Trackhawk against the 2021 Ford Expedition driven by the recruiting staffer, 24-year-old Chandler LeCroy, which led to the Jan. 15 wreck.

Per The Brunswick News:

LeCroy’s blood alcohol level was .197 — twice the legal limit — and she was traveling 104 mph just before the fatal Jan. 15 crash that led to her death and the death of Willock, police announced Wednesday.

After the group left downtown Athens, LeCroy and Carter, in his 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, were jockeying for pole position — lane switching, overtaking other cars and driving in opposite lanes, police said.
