About 10 polling locations in several Georgia counties will extend their voting hours past 7 p.m. ET due to non-credible threats that briefly disrupted the voting process. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger confirmed the decision, stating that the number of affected polling locations is approximately 10.
Raffensperger mentioned that the extensions are expected to last between 20 to 40 minutes, with most falling within the 20 to 30-minute range. The Secretary of State also noted that the threats, which were initially disruptive, subsided after the FBI revealed they originated from Russian email domains.
Five polling locations in Fulton County will experience extended voting hours following a ruling by the Fulton County Superior Court. Lake Forest Elementary School, C.H. Gullatt Elementary School, Southwest Arts Center, Etris Darnell Community Center, and Northwood Elementary School will remain open until various times ranging from 7:10 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Raffensperger emphasized the impressive voter turnout in Georgia, estimating that the state would surpass 1.1 million votes cast on election day, contributing to a total turnout exceeding 5.2 million. He commended the significant participation of voters across the Peach State.
